Role Purpose

The Safety Supervisor’s primary role is to continually promote and campaign for a safe and reliable work environment for the employees, passengers and any person that our employees come in contact with while in performance of duties. In addition, it is the Supervisor’s responsibility to oversee security issues related to the employees and the public. This person will work with developing and implementing safety programs, procedures and ensuring regulatory compliance.


Core Competencies / Responsibilities


  • Work closely with operations staff to document and report staffing requirements.
  • Assist in the development of site specific training programs and procedures at assigned terminal. Work closely with staff to develop appropriate driver training materials, programs, and procedures.
  • Manage and oversee system safety requirements. Read, understand, and enforce the Keolis Safety and Risk Management Policies from the Procedures manual.
  • Assist in training classes and provide one-on-one training/education, and refresher training for staff as needed in coordination with the GRTC Training Department. This will include looking at the on board cameras for ideas on improving and the safety of our system.
  • This position will include conducting road observations and ride a longs during the hours of the operation, to include days, nights and weekends. This person will have to respond to serious accidents to assist the GRTC Supervisors in gathering information. The GRTC Supervisor will still handle reporting the accident and handle the scene.
  • Perform pre-site inspections to review current and ongoing compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. This will include pull-outs and pull-ins, pre-trip and post-trip.
  • Ensure that the division is compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements. Known regulatory requirements include, but are not limited to:
  • State specific regulatory inspections
  • Corporate compliance standards
  • Federal specific regulations
  • Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)


Knowledge and Experience


  • 5 years of experience in the paratransit/bus transportation industry.
  • Associates degree in related field preferred, but not required.
  • Certified or knowledgeable in the following: Transit and Paratransit Management, ADA, FTA/DMV Employers Testing Program, Drug and Alcohol Awareness.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications and organizational skills and have knowledge of the service areas and conditions.
  • Be able to identify problems and handle the problems without having to be told what to do.

  • Microsoft Office Applications Suite
  • Route Match and/or a scheduling software system or have the ability to learn and use.


Work Environment / Demands of the Position


  • Generally, works outside of the office.
  • Required to conduct on-site audit and survey assessments throughout the various division/terminal locations which includes, but is not limited to internal office spaces, outside and yard areas, maintenance garages and vehicle inspections.
  • May be required to travel to client locations for meetings
  • Will be required to perform road supervision/follow-up as needed.
  • May sit for 6+ hours a day.
  • Investigate and respond to unsafe location/situation reports and make recommendations to resolve the issue.
  • Works long hours, including on call for emergencies, which will include being assigned to work all shifts and at least (1) weekend a month.
  • Creative thinking, problem solving, reasoning, decision-making.
  • Travel may be required, for industry and company/division meetings. Travel may be required for company meetings and customer contacts.


Additional Statements

Drug and alcohol screening: Employment contingent upon passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screen. Also, contingent upon receiving a favorable background check. If applying for a safety sensitive position, it may require a physical examination.
